Bank of
the West.
I helped reshape everyday mobile banking while leading major product work across an app used by roughly two million customers.
Make a traditional banking experience feel more useful, modern and human.
Overview
My work touched much of the mobile experience, from everyday accounts and navigation to sustainability products, in-app messaging and the final transition into BMO.
One language across the product.
I helped bring typography, colour and iconography into a more consistent system across the mobile experience.
Less variation.
More recognition.
From static accounts to useful ones.
The original views worked, but hierarchy was weak and useful actions were harder to reach. The redesign brought the important things forward.
Turning spending into climate awareness.
I led a new account experience that translated transaction history into an estimated carbon footprint, then helped customers understand and act on it.
The More menu became My Hub.
A catch-all list of settings and services became a structured place for the things customers needed to manage.
Bank of the West became BMO.
I led senior design work around the transition, helping millions of customers understand what was changing without making their banking relationship feel suddenly unfamiliar.
Customers did not just want more messaging. They wanted to know what was happening to their products, and when.
Explain the acquisition and start setting expectations before anything moved.
Mortgages moved first, giving the team a real migration case before the main conversion.
A personalised timeline carried customers from warnings and dates into the new BMO experience.
A personalised path from Bank of the West into BMO.
The final experience connected acquisition messaging, product-specific timing and the eventual handoff into BMO without forcing customers to decode the transition themselves.
Preserve trust, reduce uncertainty and make a complicated migration feel clear at every step.
I never expected to work for a bank. What appealed to me was a design team trying to move away from traditional banking and make something more modern for customers.
